Hainan needs to improve not only its tourism facilities but also the quality of services to create a fair and better tourism environment for visitors, said Premier Li Keqiang during a visit to the Sanya Resident & Visitor Information Center in South China’s Hainan province on March 22.

He said that as a global traveling island, Hainan should greatly develop into the modern tourism industry, thus driving comprehensive upgrade of its primary, secondary, and tertiary industries.

The Premier made a phone call with the service staff through the tourism hotline, and interacted with the police officers on duty through the command center in the information center.

When he learned that last year’s lawsuits on the tourism industry decreased to nine from the 130 the previous year, he said only a fair and high-quality tourism environment can make visitors enjoy themselves.

In order to better regulate the tourism market, local governments even sent some police teams and several secret investigation groups to the market. The Premier said to keep things fair, investigation teams should make random checks, make the results public, and give explanation opportunities to the investigated subjects.

Besides regulating the market, Hainan also needs creativity on the tourism products to promote its tourism industry, according to the Premier.

After trying a small tool invented by a local entrepreneur for drinking coconut juice, the Premier said although the invention is small, the potential market is huge. He praised the invention, and encouraged young local entrepreneurs to be pioneers for innovation and creativity.
