Premier Li Keqiang said education is important to development, prosperity and the future of both Xinjiang and the whole country while attending a discussion with deputies from Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to the National People’s Congress (NPC) on March 10.

Premier Li asked Minister of Education Yuan Guiren to find solutions to the lack of Uygur and Chinese language teachers in Xinjiang mentioned by an NPC deputy.

He praised a grassroots deputy of the Uygur ethnic group for his fluent Chinese. The delegate said he didn’t speak any Chinese before he became an NPC deputy but that he could speak the language after four years of study.
