The government will set up a Sino-German education cooperation demonstration base and a fund at Hefei University, said Premier Li Keqiang on Oct 30.

The Premier made the announcement when he visited Hefei University with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Anhui province.

Premier Li said that China is accelerating the development of modern vocational education.

China is willing to learn advanced ideas and experiences in vocational education from Germany so as to promote mass entrepreneurship and innovation, and bolster the connection between “Made in China 2025” and German “Industry 4.0”, he added.

During the tour, the Premier and Merkel tasted German-style dark beer brewed by students majoring in food science at the university.

The university, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, was jointly built by Anhui province and Lower Saxony state of Germany in 1984.

Hefei University has conducted exchanges and cooperation with 17 German colleges in the past 30 years. More than 1,700 Chinese teachers and students have traveled to Germany for further studies, and more than 900 German teachers and students have come to study in China.

Premier Li hailed the university as a successful model of pragmatic cooperation between China and Germany.
