Premier Li Keqiang handed keys to residents in Guiyang, Guizhou province, on Feb 14, as they prepare to move into new houses- after they were relocated from shanty towns.

Xiao Wenmei was one of the residents who moved out of dilapidated houses, and she received the key to her new house from the Premier.

Premier Li had been invited to hand out the keys to the residents- who lined up and waited for their turn.

Li told the residents:” I hope that this key will not only help you open the door of your new home - and that it will also kick off the start of a new life for you.”

“Good fortune” for relocated residents

Premier Li Keqiang posted the Chinese character “fu”- which means “good fortune” in Chinese- on the gate of a newly built residential community in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China’s Guizhou province.

The community was built to accommodate residents relocated from shanty towns, and Li asked the management to make sure that the community provides a comfortable and convenient living environment for residents.
