Premier meets Russian federation council speaker

BEIJING - Premier Li Keqiang met with Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko in Beijing on Sept 23.

Li said China wanted to strengthen cooperation with Russia in areas including trade, investment, energy, technology and culture.

He said China’s equipment manufacturing industry, having an edge in quality, cost performance and market competitiveness, is willing to participate in Russia’s infrastructure construction such as the high speed railway and railway upgrades to achieve reciprocal cooperation.

Matviyenko said a sustained development of China’s economy brings new opportunity for bilateral cooperation. Russia is ready to expand their exchange and cooperation in all areas.

Li said he is looking forward to his Russia visit in the next month, in which he will co-chair the bilateral prime ministers’ regular meeting with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Matviyenko said the Russian side welcomes Li’s visit.

Matviyenko will conclude her three-day China visit later on Sept 23. Besides meeting with Li, she also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and held talks with top legislator Zhang Dejiang on the same day.
