Premier meets Sao Tome and Principe’s prime minister

Premier Li Keqiang met with Jorge Bom Jesus, prime minister of Sao Tome and Principe, on March 27 in South China’s Hainan province. The prime minister is attending the 2019 Boao Forum for Asia annual conference.

The Premier said since the two countries resumed diplomatic ties in 2016, mutual political trust has been growing and prominent cooperation outcomes in various fields have been achieved.

China appreciates Sao Tome and Principe’s steadfastness to the one-China policy, which is the political foundation of the two countries’ relations, Premier Li said. He added that China is willing to promote the comprehensive partnership with Sao Tome and Principe to a new stage.

Premier Li said China will continue to support Sao Tome and Principe to achieve independent and sustainable development to win more mutual benefits.

Jesus said that Sao Tome and Principe and China are as close as brothers, and the resumption of diplomatic relations puts new vitalities into the bilateral relationship. Sao Tome and Principe adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to learn from China’s development experience. In addition, Sao Tome and Principe welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest there and wants to enhance cooperation in fisheries, tourism and infrastructure construction, among others.

Xiao Jie, state councilor and secretary-general of the State Council, also attended the meeting.
