Premier Li Keqiang on Jan 31 sent a message of congratulations to an event commemorating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-British trade relations.

The event was held by Britain’s 48 Group Club, and celebrated what’s known as the “ice-breaking trip” that marked the establishment of the Sino-British trade partnership.

Premier Li said over the last 60 years, friends from the United Kingdom, including the 48 Group Club, have actively promoted economic and trade exchanges, as well as cultural exchanges between China and the UK.

He added that these people have made contributions to China’s reform and opening-up, and have promoted mutual cooperation between the two countries.

The “ice-breaking” spirit not only represents the willingness of British people to develop a friendly relationship with China, but also shows the unstoppable momentum towards a more open and inclusive society, the Premier said.

The Chinese government appreciates the efforts of the 48 Group Club promoting Sino-British friendship, the Premier said, adding that he hopes they will maintain the “ice-breaking” spirit and make greater contributions to deepening the friendship between the two peoples.

Premier Li emphasized that China is willing to work with friends from all walks of life in the UK on the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment, to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation, safeguard multilateralism and free trade, and promote world development in an open and inclusive environment.
