Premier Li Keqiang met with President of Burkina Faso Roch Marc Christian Kabore on Sept 1 in Beijing.

Kabore is on a state visit to China and will attend the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Premier Li said a new chapter in the China-Burkina Faso relationship has unfolded since the resumption of diplomatic ties in May.

President Xi Jinping and Kabore held a fruitful meeting on Aug 31, and reached major consensus on the development of the relations, Premier Li said.

China is willing to follow the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment, to dovetail development strategies with Burkina Faso, promote cooperation in agriculture, health care, human resources, energy and other fields involving development and people’s livelihoods, and encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Burkina Faso according to market rules, the Premier said.

He also expressed hopes that China and Burkina Faso, both as developing countries, enhance cooperation in international and African affairs.

Kabore said the resumption of diplomatic ties was a decision made independently by Burkina Faso, which is in accordance with the trends of future development.

He said Burkina Faso thinks highly of China’s leadership and the support to Africa on multilateral occasions.

The bilateral cooperation has great potential, Kabore said, adding he hopes the two countries will enhance cooperation in personnel training, health care, agriculture and energy to achieve win-win cooperation.
