Premier Li meets with president of Botswana

Premier Li Keqiang met Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on Sept 1.

Masisi, on a state visit to China, is to attend the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

The Premier said that Botswana is an important country in Southern Africa, and there is a long history of friendship between China and Botswana.

President Xi Jinping has met with President Mokgweetsi Masisi and witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation documents, Premier Li said.

China is willing to have closer cooperation with Botswana in various fields and strengthen inter-party exchanges, Premier Li said.

China also encourages competent Chinese enterprises to go to Botswana and cooperate in accordance with the principle of market economy, promoting Botswana’s economic and social development, and improving its people’s livelihood, the Premier added.

The Premier also hoped, by giving full play to their complementary advantages, the two sides could expand cooperation on trade, investment and tourism, and strengthen communication and coordination in international affairs, achieving mutual benefit and win-win results.

Masisi said Botswana firmly upholds the one-China principle, and welcomes investment from China, making Botswana a regional interconnection hub.

Botswana is willing to work with China to ensure the success of the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), he added.
