Daim Zainuddin, special envoy for Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, presented Premier Li Keqiang a holograph letter by the prime minister in Beijing on July 18.

Daim, also a member of the country’s Council of Eminent Persons, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Premier for the meeting.

After reading the letter, Premier Li thanked Daim for bringing it and echoed Mahathir’s sentiment that Malaysia will retain friendly relations with China and carry forward the comprehensive strategic partnership.

“China is willing to work in concert with Malaysia, letting the bilateral relations scale new heights,” the Premier said.

Mahathir attaches substantial importance to China-Malaysian ties and is willing to continue bilateral cooperation. And Mahathir hopes that any discords between the two nations will dissolve with both sides jointly adopting proper countermeasures for the sake of the interests of two people, Daim said.

Premier Li said that China and Malaysia go back a long way, compounded with imminent potential in the China-Malaysian relations and cooperation, and both should maintain a sensible attitude when tackling differences and should always keep an eye on the big picture.

It goes without saying that the shared interests of two parties outweigh their discords, the Premier said, and the domestic political fluctuations will not affect the friendly trends of China-Malaysian relations.

The people as well as regional peace and development will benefit from benign China-Malaysian ties. Given that Malaysia had been a major contributor to the relations between China and ASEAN, China eyes further constructive support of this kind from Malaysia, the Premier said.

Daim said that China and Malaysia, boasting such well-constructed ties, will dispel misgivings and sort out differences with reasonable measures.
