From today the new administration’s work has officially started, and all departments should strive to accomplish the goals set in this year’s Government Work Report, Premier Li Keqiang said at the first State Council executive meeting after the 2018 two sessions.

The government assigned tasks set out in the Government Work Report to ministries and departments of the State Council at the March 21 meeting.

“We can’t just draw a cake for the market and the people in the report. Instead, we must live up to our promises,” said Premier Li. “Next year, we must hand over a satisfying answer to the people.”

Guided by the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, State Council departments and units should implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in full and see the Government Work Report through, according to Premier Li.

He also called for greater efforts to stick to new development concepts, promote high-quality development, deepen reform and opening-up, cultivate new growth engines through innovation and entrepreneurship, and improve people’s well-being.

“We must be ready to shoulder the loads,” the Premier said, “as some of the measures damage the government’s interest, and it is not easy to implement. However, as long as it is in the interest of the people, we should make our greatest efforts.”

The meeting assigned each of the 57 key tasks in 12 aspects specified in the Government Work Report to various departments, and called for an accountability mechanism as well as plans to push forward these tasks to ensure that each one is implemented with concrete measures and detailed schedules overseen by designated officials.

The meeting also required the accomplishment of major targets for economic and social development this year, to make a good start for the new administration of the State Council.

“Policies that are anticipated by the people and market entities should be rolled out on a timely basis,” Premier Li added.

According to the Premier, China’s economy recorded a good start, but with complicated international situations, many challenges still lie ahead. Related departments should have more confidence while making coordinated efforts for growth, reform, structural adjustments, better livelihoods and risk preparedness.

The Premier also urged all departments to make steady progress in implementing the tasks assigned to them, in order to bring more convenience to the people, further stimulate market vitality and build social confidence.
