Reading can change destiny, Premier Li Keqiang said at a panel discussion with deputies from Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui autonomous region at the first session of the 13th National People’s Congress in Beijing on March 10.

A rural deputy said she was just a middle school graduate, but she did not give up her dreams and became a famous writer locally through persistent learning and reading.

She said she hopes the government will build more libraries and cultural centers in villages and counties to help farmers change their destinies by acquiring knowledge.

Premier Li supported her suggestion, and said, “I can feel the power of knowledge and culture from your speech.”
