Premier Li meets with Panama’s President Varela

Premier Li Keqiang met with Panama’s President Juan Carlos Varela in Beijing on Nov 17.

Premier Li said the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Panama initiated a historical chapter for bilateral relations, benefiting the people of both sides.

China appreciates Panama’s stand on the one-China policy and will enhance political trust with Panama based on mutual respect, equality, and respect of each other’s core interests, he said.

According to the Premier, China is willing to connect the Belt and Road Initiative with Panama’s development strategy and deepen mutual beneficial cooperation, contributing to long-term and stable bilateral relations, and regional and global economic growth.

China, as the world’s largest cargo trade country, stands ready to develop logistics network cooperation with Panama based its regional strength as the “world bridge”, said the Premier.

He also called for making use of the rebounding world economy and global trade to seize market opportunities.

Efforts should also be made to deepen bilateral friendly exchanges through beneficial and win-win cooperation to bring well-being to the people of both sides, the Premier said.

On his part, Varela highly appreciates the tremendous achievements made by China and its significant influence on the world.

The president said he believes the establishment of diplomatic ties will boost Panama’s economic development and the bilateral cooperation.

Panama will firmly uphold the one-China policy, said Varela, and is willing to cooperate with China in connectivity and logistics center construction with its geopolitical advantages.

Panama will also provide favorable conditions for China’s investment, and construct itself into a cooperation center in Latin America for Chinese companies, Varela added.
