Premier Li Keqiang sent a message of condolence to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on behalf of the Chinese government and in his own name on June 17 after former German chancellor Helmut Kohl passed away at the age of 87.

Kohl was an outstanding German leader and an old friend of the Chinese people who actively promoted Sino-German relations, Premier Li said.

Kohl’s contribution in promoting China-Germany exchanges and cooperation will be remembered by the Chinese people, the Premier said.

Germany is China’s all-dimensional strategic partner in Europe and relations and cooperation between the two countries continue to make new progress, Premier Li said.

With the concerted efforts of both sides, he said he believes Sino-German ties and friendship will see greater development.
