Premier Li meets WHO chief and leaders from other international organizations

Premier Li Keqiang met with Margaret Chan Fung Fu-chun, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), and other major leaders from the United Nations Population Fund, United Nations Environment Program, International Telecommunication Union and Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The Premier spoke highly of the functions of WHO and other international organizations in promoting global health and said that health is among the eternal pursuits of human beings.

The Chinese government places people’s health and welfare in the top priority, and it is promoting the “Healthy China” strategy to achieve the goal of setting up an improved universal health system by 2030, said the Premier, adding that China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the WHO and other international organizations to further promote health initiatives in China and the world.

Chan spoke highly of China’s contribution to world health and its efforts in building a healthy China.

The 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion hosted by China is an unprecedented event that will have a great impact on the future and the WHO is willing to enhance cooperation with China for global health promotion, she said.
