Efforts should be stepped up to build water conservancy projects that can both ensure safety for the public and drive effective investment, Premier Li Keqiang said during a visit to urban water flood control projects in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, on Aug 23.

Premier Li emphasized that long-term quality must be ensured for such projects. The city of Nanchang suffered from massive flooding this year, although it managed to withstand the test, the Premier said.

This year, China has seen the most severe floods since 1998, according to the Premier.
