“How much can you earn per month? Could you afford to eat meat every day?” Premier Li Keqiang asked a local resident at a vegetable market in Chengdu, Sichuan province, on the morning of April 26.

The Premier walked along the market stalls and stopped at times to ask peddlers about the price changes in vegetables and pork.

He then raised three requirements for those in charge: First, ensure sufficient supply of agricultural products; Second, ensure food safety; and third, make sure that people who live on subsistence allowance have their basic needs met.
