Premier sends condolences to Indian counterpart over temple fire

BEIJING — Premier Li Keqiang on April 12 sent a message of condolences to his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, over a deadly temple fire in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Premier Li said he was shocked by the tragedy that left many people dead and many others injured in the state of Kerala.

“I’d like to extend, on behalf of the Chinese government and in my personal name, profound condolences to the victims and heartfelt sympathy to their families and those injured,” said Premier Li.

At least 112 people were killed and many others injured in the fire caused by festive fireworks at the famous Puttingal Devi temple in Kerala early on April 10.
