Premier Li Keqiang has called for the combination of the United States’ forward-looking technology and design philosophy with China’s industrial capability to enhance the country’s nuclear industry.

“The two countries should conduct joint research to ensure security, lower costs and improve sustainability, while at the same time tapping cooperation potential to expand third-party markets,” said the Premier during a meeting with visiting Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates on Nov 12.

Premier Li said China has been restructuring its economy to meet the requirements for green and sustainable development, and is willing to work with other countries to combat the challenge of climate change.

“Developing clean energy, including nuclear power, is an important way to achieve the target,” he said.

Gates said China has made remarkable progress in developing the new energy industry and fighting climate change.

“The US and Chinese enterprises should speed up technological innovation and industrialization to help provide clean, reliable and cheap energy to the rest of the globe, especially developing countries,” he said.
