China and Vietnam should strengthen strategic dialogue, enhance political mutual trust, maintain high-level exchanges and push their relationship to grow in a steady and healthy manner, Premier Li Keqiang said when he met Vietnamese Vice-Premier Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Beijing on Sept 16.

Nguyen was in Beijing as part of his visit to China and to attend the 12th China-Asean Expo.

Both countries should work to press ahead with the progress of the “One Belt, One Road Initiative” and the project to construct two corridors and an economic belt that will enhance exchanges between the two neighbors, the Premier said. He also said their economies should be upgraded by conducting international production capacity cooperation.

These measures, he said, will help closer economic cooperation between the two countries, upgrade regional interconnection and benefit people not only in the two countries but also the region.

The countries should maintain maritime stability and strengthen maritime cooperation, he said, adding that he hopes both will start a joint-study on the outer sea area of the North Bay Estuary as soon as possible.

Nguyen said Vietnam wants to develop healthy and stable relations with China, a diplomatic priority, and that his government is willing to cooperate even closer with China.
