Premier Li Keqiang stressed the need to promote the upgrading of China-Cameroon ties when meeting with visiting Cameroonian Prime Minister Philemon Yang in Beijing on June 18.

The Premier said that China attaches great importance to relations with Cameroon, and is willing to enhance political mutual trust and deepen practical cooperation in various fields. The two countries should also strengthen communication and coordination in global and regional affairs, he said.

China is willing to cooperate with Cameroon in equipment, technology, investment and financing based on the needs of Cameroon’s infrastructure in power, ports, industrial zones, roads, railways, communication and water supply, the Premier said. He also said the Chinese government encourages domestic enterprises to invest and build factories in Cameroon to promote the industrialization of the country. The two countries should actively discuss cooperation in fields like civil aviation, agriculture and human resources, the Premier added.

Premier Li stressed that the cornerstone of China’s foreign policy is to enhance cooperation with developing countries, including African nations. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and the two sides will hold conferences at ministerial level. China will promote six cooperation projects in industries, finance, poverty reduction, environmental protection, peace and security with Africa. Other cooperation projects include high-speed rail, highways, regional air networks and the industrialization of infrastructure construction.

Yang said that China and Cameroon have achieved fruitful results in cooperation and ties between the two sides can be seen as a good example of international relations. Cameroon appreciates China’s support and is willing to consolidate the relationship, extend and enhance cooperation in various fields, he said, adding that Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest in Cameroon.

Premier Li held a welcome ceremony for Yang before the meeting and the two leaders witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents after the meeting.

Earlier in the day, Yang laid a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Beijing.
