Chairing a meeting convened to lead the rescue work on the night of June 2, Premier Li Keqiang again underlined the urgency to save lives.

Ma Yiming, assistant chief of the general staff of the People’s Liberation Army, informed the Premier that 135 divers from the navy are working in shifts to ensure that there is no break in the rescue operation.

“We will try our best even if there is only the slightest hope,” Ma said to the Premier.

Premier Li also called for medical support from local authorities.

Doctors, especially psychologists, should be brought in to comfort family members of victims, Premier Li said.

All relevant government branches should take their responsibilities and pay attention to details when carrying out the comforting work, said the Premier.

The Premier has ordered the State Council to set up an investigation team to look into cause of the accident.

Vice-premier Ma Kai and State Councilor Yang Jing attended the meeting together with officials from Hubei province, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Civil Affairs, The People’s Liberation Army and other departments.
