Premier Li Keqiang met Macao Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Chui Sai On, who was in Beijing on Dec 26 to report on his work to the central government.

Li highlighted the achievements made by Macao since its return 15 years ago, calling for the SAR government to pay more attention to people’s well-being and push forward the city’s economic diversification.

The Premier said the central government would continue to adhere to the “one country, two systems” policy, handle things in strict conformity with the Basic Law of Macao, and support the SAR government to govern according to law.

Li said the country’s deepening reform and the rule of law would bring more opportunities for the development of Macao, calling on Macao to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese mainland.

Chui thanked the central government’s acknowledgment and support to the SAR government, saying Macao benefited from the latest supplement to the the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement between the Chinese mainland and Macao, and the extended operating time of ports between Macao and nearby Zhuhai, Guangdong province.

Hengqin port, which connects Zhuhai with Lotus port in Macao, extended its operating time to 24 hours earlier this month.

The Macao SAR government would continue to promote economic development and diversification, improve people’s well-being, and strengthen the city’s overall competitiveness, said Chui.
