The State Council approved the Lanzhou and Baiyin hi-tech zones in Northwest China’s Gansu province to establish national independent innovation demonstration zones, according to a document released on Feb 11.
The demonstration zones will be established within regions that have been approved by the State Council.
The central government urged Lanzhou and Baiyin to exert their geographical advantages and wield their strengths in various industries to foster a favorable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The new demonstration zones are expected to tap into the potential of less-developed regions through the application of technology and innovation.
Meanwhile, both hi-tech zones, under the guidance of an inter-ministerial team, will be entitled to the supportive policies that aim to benefit innovation demonstration zones.
Gansu’s provincial government is also urged to forge ahead in the construction progress of the two demonstration zones with an efficient action plan.
