Inter-ministry meeting to manage coal mine regions

The State Council has approved setting up an inter-ministerial meeting, to be headed by China’s top economic planner, to jointly manage subsidence regions affected by coal mines and promote their transformation and development.

The meeting, led by the State Council, will be in charge of research on measures to manage and develop the regions, and of inspections on local governments’ performance in this respect.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will be responsible for organizing the meeting, and other departments, including the ministries of civil affairs, finance, and human resources and social security, also make up the meeting.

According to the circular, He Lifeng, head of NDRC, will serve as the convener, and Lin Nianxiu, deputy head of the commission, will act as the deputy convener. Other members of the meeting include Gong Puguang, vice minister of civil affairs, Liu Wei, vice minister of finance, and You Jun, vice minister of human resources and social security.
