The State Council on June 14 issued a reply to the Jiangxi provincial government, approving construction of the Ganjiang River New Area.

The new area will include four administrative parts - Qingshan Lake region and Xinjian county in Nanchang city, the provincial capital of Jiangxi, and Gongqing city and part of Yongxiu county under Jiujiang city, covering a total area of 465 square kilometers.

The move is aimed at pushing forward the development of the Yangtze River economic zone and promoting economic and social development of Jiangxi province.

According to the plan, the construction of the new area should follow the concept of innovative, coordinated, green, open, and inclusive development, with a goal of improving people’s livelihood and building a modern industrial structural system.

The State Council asked the Jiangxi provincial government to support the construction of the new area by strengthening leadership, improving work efficiency and bringing about innovative thinking. The response also emphasized that the new area should be in line with planning procedures set by the government.

In addition, related departments of the State Council should be clear of their duties in the task and provide necessary guidance to assist and support the establishment and development of the new area.
