The 2016 Chinese Bridge contest, the annual Chinese-language proficiency competition, has opened in Beijing. 72 contestants from 64 universities and 42 countries and regions have come to the Chinese capital for the semi-finals and finals.

The contestants’ Chinese language proficiency, knowledge about China and Chinese culture and comprehensive learning abilities are to put to the test. Winners received scholarships to further their studies in China. The competition will be aired on China Central Television. The “Chinese Bridge” is a large-scale international competition, organized and sponsored by the Confucius Institute.

It’s well-known in cultural and educational exchange circles globally. The competition committee launched the worldwide application campaign earlier this year. Contestants advance from regional competitions in America, Europe, Africa, Oceania and Asia. There’s also a special “region” for online contestants.
