China starts with the construction of the world’s largest radio telescope in Southwest China’s Guizhou province.

Workers are assembling the last reflector panel for the single-aperture spherical telescope “FAST” in Pingtang county.

The 500-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope, or FAST, has 4,450 triangular reflector panels. It is similar in design to the Arecibo Observatory, using a natural hollow to provide support for the telescope dish.
