Temple fairs take on different themes during Spring Festival

China’s temple fairs are synonymous with Spring Festival but they vary in size and theme depending on their location.

You’ll find traditional Chinese costume performances, parades and food stands in most, but some have become more creative in the festivities they offer.

In what’s called the “foreign temple fair” in Beijing, flower floats dazzle visitors alongside parades with international performers. Tourists are encouraged to join the parades to sing and dance.

In Nanjing’s Confucius Temple area, it’s your usual market-place styled temple fair by day but a sea of colorful lights and lanterns by night. Crowds of people have been gathering for the unique dual experiences.
