Beijing gears up for WWII commemoration

The one-month countdown to Beijing’s big Victory Day parade on Sept 3 has started. The government is shifting into high gear to make sure that everything goes smoothly during the huge parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of the second world war.

Two airports in Beijing will be closed from 9:30 am to 12.30 pm as the parade passes through the China’s capital city. And to guarantee blue skies for the festivities. The city will restrict the use of private vehicles based on even- and odd-numbered license plates from August 20th through Sept 3.

In addition, 80 percent of the vehicles owned by local governments and state-controlled companies will be banned. The city will also close or limit production at some factories to reduce emissions even more.
