Some 3,000 people gathered on June 28 to pay tribute to renowned warrior Guan Yu, from China’s Three-Kingdoms period. The tribute was part of the 24th Guangong Cultural Festival on Dongshan Island in Fujian province, and drew celebrants from the Chinese mainland as well as Taiwan.
Dressed in traditional costume, they gathered to pay tribute to Guan Yu at the temple named after him. Guan Yu was a general serving under the warlord Liu Bei in the late Eastern Han dynasty, about 2,000 years ago, and he is still regarded as an epitome of loyalty and righteousness.
As the festival continues, other activities will include a commodity fair, exhibitions of paintings and calligraphy, and tourism promotion.
