A group of rock paintings has been found in Ningming county of China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The paintings are more than 2000 years old, but still retain their vivid colors.

Huashan Mountain has been listed a national cultural relics protection site. The rock paintings consist of more than 1900 drawings. They are one of the largest and best protected rock paintings in the world. They are located along the 200-kilometer riverside of the Zuojiang River.

Research shows the paintings can be dated back to 5 BC to 2 AD. They mostly depict the daily life and culture of the local Zhuang people. After so many centuries, it’s a surprise how well the colors have been preserved. The kind of pigments and how they were painted are a mystery.
