Two months after China’s new environmental laws came into effect, the Environment Ministry in a press conference, released results of the enforcement of the new rules.

A total of 107 bosses of companies have been detained after failing to complete environmental impact assessments or ignore warnings to stop polluting and 15 polluters have been fined on a daily basis. The ministry has also launched a reporting platform on WeChat, one of China’s largest messaging apps, encouraging people to report any violations of the environmental law.

Chen Jining, China’s new minister of environmental protection held his first news conference on March 1 since assuming his position last month. During the meeting, he has emphasized again that laws can’t be broken. Both companies and governments need to observe the law, which shouldn’t be viewed as a difficult requirement.
