A large-scale fairy tale musical titled “Wild Zebra” was staged at Tsinghua University in Beijing on Jan 11. The performers were all students from Zhongguancun No. 2 Primary School.

“Wild Zebra” tells the story of Miss Zebra, who sacrifices her own life to protect the lives of her friends. The show is based on the musical created by Zhang Jigang and Zhang Qianyi, who sold the play’s copyrights to the Beijing Municipal Education Commission for one yuan.

The young performers said they learned a lot from the musical.

“We are responsible to teach them to love nature and love life,” director Zhang Jigang said.

“The reason that I sold it at one yuan is that I want to tell them to respect copyrights. It’s also a form of education.”

The performance also won the support of parents.

Following its premier at Tsinghua University, the musical will be staged at the National Center for the Performing Arts.
