HANGZHOU — East China’s Zhejiang province reported 1.67 trillion yuan (about $241.7 billion) in online retail sales in 2018, up 25.4 percent year-on-year, the local cyberspace administration said on June 5.

Zhejiang, well-known for its booming e-commerce sector and home of Alibaba, has more than 706,000 online stores on the third-party e-commerce platforms, creating more than 2.1 million jobs directly.

The e-commerce sector has also fueled the development of supporting services such as logistics and storage. More than 10 billion express parcels were handled in the province last year, compared with 820 million in 2012.

The added value of the core industries in the province’s digital economy reached 5.55 trillion yuan in 2018, up 13.1 percent from the previous year.
