The quality of consumer goods is not only vital to industry development but also essential to people’s livelihoods. How to further stimulate consumption with high quality Made-in-China products is a crucial question to answer.

All parties should engage in efforts to make more high quality goods, as manufacturers should have a long-term perspective, foster correct values and craftsmanship, while the government should set strict regulations on product quality.

According to a recent State Council executive meeting, efforts should be made to improve the quality of consumer goods with advanced standards, increase effective supply, and promote consumption upgrading.

Under the context of the new normal, consumption is replacing economic engines driven by investment and export to advance the economy. Thus, stimulating consumption potential with high quality Made-in-China products is of great importance to sustainable economic growth.

With increasing income and new consumption concepts, people are paying more attention to living quality, so their focus turns to product quality and taste.

In 2015, with 120 million overseas visits, Chinese consumers spent 1.5 trillion yuan ($225 billion) abroad, among which at least 700 billion to 800 billion yuan were spent on shopping, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce.

Chinese visitors not only spent money on luxury goods but also on everyday products, indicating the absence of or price disadvantage of Made-in-China products in some sectors.

In other words, this shows the deficiency in effective supply to satisfy domestic consumption potential.

As the world manufacturing center, China should highlight product quality and service experience to satisfy people’s expanding consumption needs.

To do so, a series of measures should be taken to increase consumers’ confidence in the quality of Made-in-China products.

Chinese manufacturers should prioritize social responsibility, enterprise reputation, and long-term development rather than immediate profits.

In addition to manufacturers’ determination to make high quality products, strict legislation and regulation are also indispensable, especially in sectors concerning food safety.

Last but not least, efforts should also be made to promote traditional craftsmanship and advocate its spirit to make products with excellence and perfection.
