The Internet Plus business model and people’s growing interest in healthy, smart and service-oriented consumption have given rise to a series of new consumption models during the Spring Festival holiday of 2016.

Before Spring Festival, many e-commerce companies launched online shopping events to coincide with the holiday.

During the Spring Festival shopping gala of the e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, 13.66 percent of orders were delivered to different places from where they were ordered, meaning that about 280 million pieces of goods joined the Spring Festival “travel rush” this year, according to statistics jointly published by Alibaba and a third party.

Since Beijing and its neighboring city Zhangjiakou won the bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics, China’s skiing market has ushered in a boom.

Statistics from several travel agencies showed that the well-known ski resort Chongli county in Zhangjiakou of Hebei province received 200,000 tourists in the three days before Spring Festival, up 27 percent from a year earlier.

Various ice carnivals were held in Beijing during the festival, and ski slopes in Northeast China, Xinjiang Uygur and Inner Mongolia autonomous regions also attracted crowds of tourists.

To compete for consumers during Spring Festival, several e-commerce companies and major private express delivery companies announced that they would not suspend business during the holiday.

Some platforms providing O2O household service and catering service also said that they would not stop service during the festival.

Tourism, especially outbound tourism, remains the main force of consumption during the Spring Festival holiday.

According to statistics from the China National Tourism Administration, tropical beaches were the most popular tourist destinations this year, and tourism products in countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines grew rapidly.

Traditional nearby destinations such as Japan and the Republic of Korea also remained popular among Chinese tourists.

Besides tourism, consumption in entertainment, education and fitness also grew.

Introduction of the Internet Plus model into sports also gave rise to various sports applications.

As a new model of nationwide fitness, many people shared their exercise achievements, such as a running roadmap, on social media, adding another bright spot to this year’s Spring Festival.
