A memorial service was held on Aug 18 for the more than 100 victims of the warehouse blast in the Chinese port city of Tianjin.

People gathered at seven venues around the city, and more than 300 hundred people, including senior leaders of Tianjin, attended the ceremony at the main venue.

According to Chinese tradition, the seventh day after one’s death is an occasion for the relatives and friends to mourn the passing of their loved one.

Two explosions ripped through a warehouse storing hundreds of tons of toxic chemicals on Aug 12. Death toll from the accident has risen to 114, with 698 people hospitalized and 70 still unaccounted for.
