Senior military official meets Singaporean deputy PM

BEIJING -- Vice-Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission Fan Changlong met in Beijing on Oct 28 with Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for National Security and Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean.

Commenting on the rapid growth of China-Singapore relations, Fan said the two armed forces have a fruitful cooperation in such areas as high level visits, policy dialogue, joint training, fleet visits and personnel exchanges.

China attaches great importance to its ties with Singapore, he said, vowing to promote more substantial cooperation between both sides.

Teo said his country values its cooperation with China, and is committed to closer ties between both countries and militaries.

State Councilor Yang Jiechi also met with Teo on Oct 28.

Teo is visiting China from Oct 26-28 at the invitation of Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli. He and Zhang co-chaired a series of meetings including the 11th meeting of China-Singapore Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation, the 16th China-Singapore Joint Steering Council Meeting for the Suzhou Industrial Park, and the seventh China-Singapore Joint Steering Council Meeting for the Tianjin Eco-city.
