BEIJING -- Security chief Meng Jianzhu on Sept 1 met with Sylavong Somkeo, Lao acting minister of public security, on deepening bilateral security cooperation.

Meng, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said China hopes to further enhance cooperation on law enforcement and security with Laos in the Mekong River basin so as to turn the cooperation mechanism into a model of regional law enforcement cooperation.

He also called on both countries to cement cooperation in traditional areas, and expand cooperation in areas like anti-terror, illegal immigration and cyber crime.

Somkeo said Laos is willing to work with China to forge ahead on bilateral law enforcement and security cooperation.

Earlier on Sept 1, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun held talks with Somkeo. The two sides signed cooperation agreements.
