Spring Breeze, a retrospective exhibition of oil painter and educator Su Tianci (1922-2006), presents poetic and vibrant spring scenes which Su created inspired by his life of seclusion in the suburbs. He has instilled the works with a depth of sensibility after decades of practising oil painting with a Chinese flavour. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

The paintings now displayed at the National Art Museum of China largely came from a donation to the museum from Su’s family in 2008. By portraying spring scenery of willow trees, swallows and blossoms, Su paints with pleasing schemes of color and light. His portraits demonstrate a brilliant combination of Western modernism and Oriental poetry.[Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

A native of Guangdong province, Su studied oil painting under the guidance of Lin Fengmian the pioneer of modern Chinese painting. He taught at the Nanjing University of the Arts in Jiangsu province. The exhibition runs until April 6. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
