How Internet is changing people’s lives

China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) published the 38th Statistical Report on Internet Network Development in China, showing how the Internet has changed people’s lives.

The number of netizens who use handsets to access internet rose to 656 million in June, accounting for 92.5 percent of all Chinese online users. It is predicted that there will be more phubbers in the future, as more netizens being apt to use mobile phones.

With increasing cooperation between mainstream video websites and show business, the number of video website users jumped to 514 million in June.

The number of online payment users has surged to 455 million. With the growth rate of mobile payments rising, many users are going out without their wallet and credit cards.

The number of online shoppers increased to 448 million as of June. Among them, 401 million shopped online using handsets.

Live video streaming business has developed rapidly. The number of Internet users who watch live streaming videos reached 325 million, 45.8 percent of the total.

Online gaming has seen a rapid growth as of June, with the number jumping to 391 million, or more than half of the total online users. The number is expected to continue to raise, with increasing combination of online games with TV plays.

Online travel services have become an important part in travel booking market. Up to June, people who booked air tickets, hotels, and train tickets online rose to 264 million.

Nearly 160 million booked car-hailing services online, accounting for 22.3 percent of the total netizens. Online car-hailing service has got legal status recently, hopefully achieving better performance in the second half of year.

The number of users ordering takeout online increased to 150 million as of June, with mobile booking users growing rapidly. Online takeout ordering service has grown fast, due to the regulated and market-oriented environment.

Online financial management business has developed rapidly. Up to June, the number of people who bought internet financial products increased to 101 million. According to the report, most netizens have been accustomed to online wealth management.
