A senior Chinese official Friday called for more efforts to promote open and transparent law enforcement to ensure social justice.
Zhou Yongkang, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, told a meeting on national political and legal work that China was currently in a key strategic period for development and it was also faced with an arduous task to maintain social harmony and stability.
Zhou praised the work of the country's political and legal staff in 2009, citing a series of economic cases and major mass incidents which were well handled.
He stressed the security work for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai and the 2010 Asian Games in south China's Guangzhou City as key tasks for the upcoming work.
He also called on political and legal departments across the country to improve social management, including service to and management of migrant workers and other special groups.
