A senior Chinese official has called for enhanced efforts to improve people's livelihood and dissolve complaints at grassroots communities.

Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks in a two-day meeting, which concluded Tuesday.

He said the government faced increasing difficulties in coordinating different interests and social problems had become more intricate.

The government should review the risks to social stability when adopting new polices and planning major projects, he said, adding laws should be enforced in a strict, fair, civilized and corruption-free manner to safeguard people's legitimate interests.

He urged efforts to embrace innovation in dissolving social risks and encouraged government officials to visit grassroots organizations and solve people's complaints in a sincere manner.

At China's Party organs and government departments, offices are set up to receive common people's letters, calls and visits.
