China and the European Union signed five cooperative documents after the 12th China-EU summit held in eastern China city of Nanjing on Monday.

The five agreements cover areas of technological cooperation, near-zero emission coal utilization project, energy-efficiency and quality on buildings, the sustainable development of China's trade and investment, and environmental management.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt attended the signing ceremony.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Monday that the China-EU relations should be more strategic, comprehensive and stable.

He made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 12th China-EU summit held in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.


Chinese Premier: China hopes world's major reserve currency will maintain stable

China hopes the world's major reserve currency will maintain stable, said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Sunday when meeting with three Euro Group leaders.

He was speaking with Euro Group President and Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet and European Union Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia ahead of the 12th EU-China summit.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met in Nanjing with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso ahead of the 12th China-European Union (EU) summit, due to be held Monday morning.

Wen said that China attached great importance to the summit, as it was a meeting to be held prior to the 35th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic ties.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met Sunday with a trio of the European Union (EU) foreign ministers ahead of the 12th China-EU Summit.

The trio included Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, EU Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Angel Lossada Torres-Quebedo.
