China's top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, explored stronger bilateral ties during a meeting with Fernando Cordero, head of the Ecuador's National Assembly, Quito Tuesday.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said China-Ecuador relations have developed rapidly due to efforts of both sides.

China-Ecuador relations have witnessed increased high-level exchanges, enhanced political mutual trust, expansion of trade cooperation and broadened areas of cooperation, as well as increasingly frequent talent exchanges, Jia said.

Ecuador has been a popular tourist destination for Chinese, he added, noting that the development of bilateral ties has tangibly benefited the two peoples.

Jia said China attaches great importance to its relations with Ecuador and is willing to work with Ecuador to deepen cooperation in four areas.

The two countries should actively implement a consensus reached by their leaders to make new progress in bilateral ties.

They should strive to raise the level of economic and trade cooperation and accelerate the implementation of the two countries' major projects based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

The two countries should continuously extend cultural exchanges and strengthen communication and cooperation between political parties, local governments and scientific research institutions to form an all-round and multi-level contact pattern.

Finally, they should enhance coordination in international affairs and protect interests of developing countries in coping with global issues, such as energy and food security and climate change.

Jia also said the CPPCC wishes to enhance contact and cooperation with Ecuador's national assembly to contribute to the development of friendly relations.

Cordero, for his part, said Ecuador values the cooperation mode of peaceful development, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation initiated by China and appreciates China's long-established assistance.

He highlighted the bright prospects of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Ecuador's National Assembly highly values its relations with China and is in favor of cooperation on major projects between the two sides, he added.

It also wishes to increase exchanges between the two parliaments and play a more important role in promoting bilateral ties, Cordero said.

Jia arrived in Quito on Monday for an official visit at the invitation of Cordero. He will also visit Brazil as the last leg of his four-state trip.
