A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for making hard efforts to develop non-profitable cultural facilities, accelerate the development of cultural service system for the public, and better protect the fundamental cultural rights of the people.
Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made this call during his Monday visits to the National Museum, which is now being extended, and the National Peking Opera Theater.
In his talks with workers at the site of the museum's expansion project, the senior Party official urged the constructors to follow the principle of "Quality First" and try to build a museum that takes the lead in the country and is also world-class.
During his stay at the theater, Li inquired about the management of its office building and the Mei Lanfang Theater. Mei, one of the best-known Peking Opera masters in the country, died in1961.
Li had a meeting with some artists and discussed with them the future prospects of Peking Opera, one of the most popular arts in China.
The National Peking Opera Theater is the supreme performing place in China and it carries the historic mission of guiding and promoting the prosperity and development of Peking Opera, he noted.
State-Councilor Chen Zhili was with Li during his visits.
