Swiss sinologist in China

Fascinated by Chinese culture, Kristofer Schipper has spent much time traveling around China in the past four decades. In 2001, he founded the Library of the Western Belvedere in Fuzhou University that boasts bundles of European masterpieces and classics. After being bestowed Friendship Award and permanent residence in China, Schipper was nominated as a torch carrier for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. He is now planning to establish an international sinologist center in China in order to "spread the centuries-old Chinese civilization to the rest of the world and hence enhance the cultural communication between the East and West."
