Baiheliang Underwater Museum site lies in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. The underwater measeum is being built at the site of the Baiheliang, meaning "white crane ridge" stone, which carries 18 fish figurines and over 30,000 characters of poems carved by ancients over the past 1,200 years to measure the water level in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in low water seasons.

The 1.6-kilometer-long and 15-meter-wide Baiheliang stone slab will be 40 meters deep in the water in 2009 when the Three Gorges Project is completed. The construction of the underwater museum started in 2002 and will be completed in 2007. Baiheliang is deemed as a "wonder of the world's hydrological history."
