Capping effects of leaking gas well in Chongqing closely watched

The third attempt to seal the leaking gas well in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has ended early Friday, according to the headquarters dealing with the accident.

The capping efforts ended around 6 a.m. on Friday and the workers have been closing watching the effects, said a source coordinating the technical problem of the capping. Full story>>>

Chongqing attempts 3rd plan to seal leaking gas well

The third attempt to seal the leaking gas well in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality was launched on Thursday after the second attempt failed late on Wednesday.

Experts dealing with the accident said they decided to fill a type of sticky gel into the leaking layer, and then seal off the well with alumina cement. Full story>>>

Number of evacuated villagers reaches 15,000 in Chongqing

The number of residents required to evacuate has risen to 15,000, as the plan to cap the leaking well at Gaoqiao Town in Kaixian County, Chongqing Municipality was suspended Thursday.

Evacuations increase as gas leak continues

Late last night, emergency workers were making a third attempt to plug the leak in the southwest China gas well after two earlier attempts failed.    

Meanwhile, government officials in the southwest China municipality say they're in dire need of relief material for residents forced out of their homes in Kaixian County by the gas leak, which began last Saturday. full story>>>

Chongqing postpones 2nd plan to cap gas well

The second plan to seal off the leaking gas well in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality scheduled for Tuesday morning was postponed till Wednesday, said the headquarters dealing with the leakage accident.

"Geological conditions around the leakage site are so complicated that we need spend more time to work out a more detailed plan to deal with all possibilities," said an official with the headquarters. Full story>>>

Chongqing to adopt 2nd plan to cap gas well

The headquarters dealing with the gas leakage accident in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality decided on Monday night to employ the second plan to cap the leakage-hit gas well on Tuesday morning as the first plan did not prove effective.

According to the second plan, workers will pour slurry and cement into the underground through the mouth of the Luojia No. 2 well located in Gaoqiao Town of Kaixian County, said an official with the southwest branch of the well's owner China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). Full story>>>

Capping of gas well starts in Chongqing

Workers started to shut down the Luojia No. 2 gas well hit by a gas leakage in Gaoqiao Town of Kaixian County, Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, at 10:00 Monday morning.

More than 10,000 residents living within one kilometer of the well were evacuated and workers have earlier ignited the escaping gas to avoid the possibility of a buildup and explosion. Full story>>>
